OFF TO "OZ" Print E-mail

OFF TO "OZ"

I'm still humming and singing, "I'm off to see the wizard the wonderful wizard of OZ..."  (If only I had the voice of the incredible Judy Garland who was only 16 when she played Dorothy.)  Yes, I got the privilege of befriending 5 of the last 6 surviving "Munchkins"--the "little people"-- while celebrating the 70th Anniversary of THE WIZARD OF OZ.
(Pride and proof in the picture below.)  That's the talented, funny Lorna Luft, Judy Garland's daughter on the right.  "The Lollipop Kid" and I are like family now.

"The Tuscan Hills Reward" Print E-mail

Warner Sisters gave this "Sister" time to touch Tuscany--a reward of the highest order!

Planting myself across from Monteriggioni--a little village and walled city with 14 towers in the Siena province built in the first two decades of the 1200s.

Time to listen. Time to take in this soulful land. TIme to feel her gentle wind, her summer storms, her rolling hills, her walled-cities, her elegance, the history in

her ancient structures, and her aesthetic magic. I felt invited to breath her air and treated myself to the quiet while piecing together all the quotes and speeches of my grandfather, Harry Warner, which makes me even more able to understand his passion for film making, the importance of the power he knew he had, and the difference he attempted to make.

Time to change my pace. Time to taste new flavors. Time to appreciate what is. Time to explore. Time to not have to be elsewhere. Time to imagine while driving through the Tuscan countryside while singing along with Andrea Bocelli or discovering a new flavor of gelato. Enjoying the ritual of eating a multi-course dinner with new friends for hours at a time, or at the table of an Italian family which was much like eating at my Jewish grandmother's table. In other words, asking for a doggy bag is not considered polite.

Ain't life grande!

Enjoy! Enjoy!

Cass "will inspire future generations of filmmakers." Print E-mail

Greetings to those of you whose eyes see this!

As we all know, being acknowledged for one's passion & work is a wonderful thing. In fact, I'm of the school who believes strongly in validating as much as one can in others as I've found that it tends to bring out a wish to do more of the same in someone. Have you found that to be true?

Mr. O'Brien greatly complimented me with his words below which I greatly appreciate! It means I'm doing my job-- forwarding a reminder that once there were some brothers who had a strong wish to use film in the way described below. May I reach and encourage many others to use this form of communication in this way.

"Thank you for making this film and making it available to be seen on the big screen! I think it has one of the most important messages of any film in that it deals with the responsibility of the filmmaker for the world around him. Your ancestors set a very high bar in this respect. Well done on creating a film that ensures their courage and compassion will be remembered and will inspire future generations of filmmakers." - Michael O'Brien

To you and what you're creating!

Cass

Cass at the Mendocino Film Festival Print E-mail

The lovely Mendocino Film Festival that took place the end of May needs to be mentioned as a highlight for me and THE BROTHERS WARNER. "Moving" pictures--took on another definition.  I was really touched by how the audience was openly "moved" emotionally--a reward of the highest order!

Oh my...The honor of sharing the title of "Madrina" (Italian for "Godmother") of the Biografilm--International Celebration of LIves Film Festival with a most lovely lady and actress, Jade Marx, Groucho Marx's granddaughter, is something I will cherish for some time!  At first when I asked for the translation of "Madrina", I was told it was a "Fairy Godmother".  (I've always wanted to be a "Fairy Godmother" but am happy to accept a "Godmother" title for now.  Will have to figure out how to earn the "Fairy" part...)

Notes from Cass, June 7th, 2009 Print E-mail
I did it!  I'm high--literally, 35,000 feet high in the sky on my way to Bologna, Italy with 305 other folks in what feels like a cruise liner with wings!  Can't help but marvel at how man has figured out how to get this amount of metal and weight  to stay up in the air!So rather than try and figure this out, I've sat back, plugged in to the opera channel and have started singing arias or a solo vocal piece.  Do you think the other passengers will mind?

Cannes Film Festival Announcement: The Brothers feature film Print E-mail

Doing an Irish jig with abandon here, as VARIETY Magazine posted an announcement on Saturday, May 16th from the Cannes Film Festival.  It took a French producer of "La Vie en Rose", dear Alain Goldman, to understand the value of telling my family's story on the big screen!

The Brothers Warner :: A Documentary To Inspire Print E-mail

The Brothers Warner Documentary

The Brothers Warner is a story about four brothers who rise from nothing to build their dream.  The story tells how they overcame their personal tragedies and battles to turn their dream into a reality!

Here are some interesting facts to go share with your friends:

  • An intimate portrait and saga of the four Hollywood pioneers: the strategic general, Harry Warner; honest Abe; visionary Sam; and volatile Jack.
  • A definitive story of a family who rose from immigrant poverty through personal tragedies persevering to create a major studio with a social conscience.
  • They opened their first storefront theater by hanging a sheet on the wall and borrowing chairs from a funeral parlor to create one of the top studios in America.
  • These inspiring four brothers built an empire on a dream and revolutionized Hollywood creating the first major studio with a social conscience.
  • This close-knit band of brothers was the first to use mass media to “educate, entertain, and enlighten.”
  • The Brothers Warner (60 minute version) now airing on PBS / American Masters
  • Cass Warner founded Warner Sisters to forward the legacy of her grandfather, Harry Warner, founder and president of Warner Brothers studio.
